Loungelover

Loungelover brings something to the London bar scene that it's long been missing: high camp. Actually it brings a lot of things: gaily coloured anatomical models, a decaying doll's house, stuffed small mammals, a leathery sword- nosed fish head, painted fairground gallopers and myriad light fittings from Chinese lanterns to glowing tipped crowns. This magpie's haul is randomly loaded into a former butcher's store in a far- side- of- Shoreditch location which only makes any sense when you realise it's where you also find OTT restaurant Les Trois Garçons (Loungelover's parent venue). In such surrounds it has to be cocktails, ordered off a list that runs to around 16 pages. They're terrific and most come in signature seductively sculpted glasses. Food is also served, but it's limited to just 40 covers per night - according to the manager this is to keep the focus on the drinking. What a laudable policy. Reservations are necessary Thursday to Saturday.
