The White Horse

Renovated a few years ago, the White Horse has now achieved the perfect old boozer/trendy bar equilibrium. The lovely large space has all the archetypal ingredients of a 'reconstructed' pub - scuffed wooden floors, exposed brickwork and the ubiquitous squishy low leather sofas - but the resulting atmosphere still feels laid- back and organic. Deep red and aubergine walls and low lighting are given additional touches that could have been a pretentious (photos of graffiti) actually work well. The White Horse draws a diverse and upbeat crowd, who come here to chin- wag over a few pints, shoot a few rounds of pool on the table hidden round the back and snaffle up the good- value bar snacks and cocktails. At weekends, DJs bring funk, soul, hip hop and electro beats to the spacious floor.
