Enter the sleek lobby of the Great Eastern Hotel, and you may find it hard to believe that this is the same Victorian building that rattled along for years as a seedy railway hotel. That was before Terence Conran swooped down and gave the place a £70m facelift. The result, which opened in February 2000, is pretty ravishing.

This is a relaxed and comfortable place to stay, right in London's financial centre. There are rooms of all shapes and sizes. Those on the lower floors can be dark—ask to stay on the third floor or above. Some rooms overlook the interior of Liverpool Street Station, which can be fun.

The hotel offers endless opportunities for putting on weight (several restaurants and a sushi bar). For breakfast, try Terminus, which serves delicious poached eggs and fine cappuccino. The glittering champagne and oyster bar fills up in the evenings.

When we were in London, we got the best room for our family during our stay at Great Eastern Hotel. Room was big enough for us (me and my hubby plus 1 child), We even have the perfect view of the outside that my kid loves to view early in the morning. nofollow
