Ten years young last year and this intimate basement venue remains home to some of the liveliest mid- week sessions in the capital. Giles Peterson's THIS (That's How It Is) eternal jazz- funk residency on Mondays is the place for superfly dancing, while Movement keeps Thursdays jumping with international drum 'n' bass DJs. Dancing is a priority at the other residencies too, thanks to a music policy favouring Latin, garage and soulful grooves, coupled with the difficulty of finding a seat in the crowded booths. Lighting is low and prices are generally cheap, especially during their lengthy happy hour, the Early Session. Bar Rumba seems small, but with Venus Williams and Spike Lee on the celebrity roster and a top- notch sound system, it's most definitely perfectly formed.

Posted by Clarke, 28 February, 2008In the heart of the city, I have found the Bar Rumba. It is the best time to hit such a cool spot. Perfect place to hang out with awesome music just perfect for the ambience. Take some time to really check out the decor of the whole entire place because that is something you often miss when a place is packed with people enjoying the evening.
