Housed in a disused Victorian railway arch, Cargo has been setting trends since its inception. First with an industrial take on MDF (music, drinks, food) and more recently by bringing live music to club nights. Nothing new having a live PA you may think, except that here they've succeeded in keeping punters dancing post- performance by giving DJs equal billing to the live act, now a widely adopted formula in clubland. One- stop entertainment attractions include the tapas 'street' food restaurant, a dreamily lit cushioned lounge, an outdoor courtyard (with barbeques in warm weather), professional, genial staff and exemplary, progressive line- ups. More plus points go to the litre bottles of Cruzcampo beer, special drinks offers (£2 bottles of Pilsner Urquell, for example) and more than half- decent cocktails (£6). While Ross Allen's Destination Out and the African beats of The Shrine are two Saturday nights worth checking, it's Cargo's commitment to showcasing DJs and bands from the world over that marks it out as this city's most educationally inspiring dancehall.
