Richmond Park Golf Club has two public courses in the heart of Richmond Park. The park is a royal park created by King Charles I in 1637. It is a massive park and indeed takes about 20 minutes to drive around. The topography is parkland with some woodland and grassland. Driving through the park on the public roads, it is not uncommon to see deer and other wildlife roaming the park. It is truly a remarkable park in the heart of the one of the world's busiest cities.

The courses were originally established in 1923 to allow the public access to golf without incurring the expense of joining established clubs. King George commissioned JH Taylor and Hawtree to lay out the Duke's course. The Prince's course was opened in 1925. However the courses were somewhat neglected until Golf Course Management were awarded a 25 year operator licence by the Department of the Environment in 1985. They have since invested a considerable sum in modernising both courses (Hawtree & Sons)and creating the extensive pro- shop facilities.
